- Sr. Engineer, Mine
Description
As part of the Cigar Lake team, you will contribute your mine engineering expertise with a strong focus on underground ventilation system design, optimization, and performance monitoring to support safe and efficient mining of a challenging orebody. This role is critical in ensuring that ventilation systems are effectively designed, implemented, and maintained to meet regulatory and operational requirements.
In this role, you will:
- Maintain a focus on safe conditions, leading ventilation design, planning, and optimization for underground development and production areas.
- Own and maintain the ventilation model, ensuring it reflects current and planned mine conditions.
- Review and analyze ventilation performance data and implement corrective actions as required, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and site procedures related to ventilation, monitoring, and system audits.
- Lead ventilation-related risk assessments and support incident response (e.g. ventilation failures, re-entry planning).
- Support the overall mine engineering function by ensuring alignment between mine ventilation design and operational conditions, while maintaining consideration for short- and long-term mine plans.
- Contribute to ground control strategies and integration with development sequencing.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and technical services departments to resolve complex underground challenges.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (mine, geological, geotechnical, mechanical, or similar), with significant experience in underground mine ventilation design and operation;
- seven to 12 years of progressive underground mining experience, with significant experience in mine ventilation design and operation;
- eligibility for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS);
- Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation;
- proficiency with ventilation modelling software, preferably VentSim;
- demonstrated ability to interpret and act on ventilation monitoring data;
- experience integrating ventilation requirements into mine planning and scheduling, particularly Vulcan and Deswik;
- demonstrated leadership experience working with technical teams and complex projects;
- equivalent combination of education and work experience considered; and
- work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft.
Recommended:
- experience with Ground Control and/or Geotechnical Modelling;
- experience in high-grade mines with geotechnically complex underground mining environments;
- familiarity with regulatory requirements and ventilation auditing processes in Saskatchewan or similar jurisdictions; and
- experience supporting emergency response planning related to ventilation systems.
Conditions of Employment:
- pre-employment substance test.
